Two new pints on tap and two new bottles behind the bar just landed, and every single one of them's got a story worth telling before you even take a sip. Here's what's new, what it tastes like, and why you should be ordering one on your next visit down the Dread.
ON TAP: TWO NEW PINTS WORTH QUEUING FOR
Brooklyn Stonewall Inn IPA
A proper New York session IPA, brewed by Brooklyn Brewery in partnership with the actual Stonewall Inn in NYC.
Citra hops give it lively lemon peel and grapefruit zest, it's only 5.0% ABV so you won't be wrecked by pint three. Tastes great, does good — can't say that about many pints.
Poretti
Straight out of Varese, Italy, brewed since 1877 — Poretti's the polished Italian lager built on four hop varieties, with a pillowy white head and brilliant golden clarity, around 4.8-5% ABV. Basically what you'd order outside a café in Milan, except you're in Bathgate and it's probably raining.
ON THE GANTRY: TWO NEW SPIRITS TO GET STUCK INTO
Reapers Rum
Made just up the road in St Andrews by Pilgrim's Drinks, Reapers Rum is a properly warming spiced rum built on coffee, vanilla and chilli — 37.5% ABV and not for the faint-hearted. Have it neat, on ice, or with your favourite mixer. Scottish rum that doesn't mess about — sounds about right for round these parts.
Wolfie's Scotch Whisky
This one's got some serious rock and roll pedigree — Wolfie's is co-founded by Rod Stewart himself, distilled, blended and bottled right here in Scotland. Expect sweet vanilla, dried fruit and warming spice: smooth enough to sip, bold enough to remember. If it's good enough for Rod, it's good enough for the Dread.
